Biographical Note

Maria Edgeworth was an Irish writer of regional novels and books on social conditions and children's education.

Scope and Content

Maria Edgeworth writes to Mrs. William Griffith, Burlington, N.J., ca. 1815 or 1816, inviting her to visit, describing her family, and including a drawing of their house by her sister Honora [later engraved, included here]; to William Stuart, Archbishop of Armagh, 19 July 1818, forwarding some pages of her father's Memoirs for approval; to Captain [Francis Bond] Head, 18 February 1827, complimenting him on his book, Rough Notes Taken During Some Rapid Journeys Across the Pampas and Among the Andes; to Mrs. Eliza Fletcher, 7 February 1835, responding to an inquiry concerning the letters or papers of Sir Humphry Davy.
